Consultation with environmental and consumers’ associations

Hydrogen is an energy source that allows for the storage of excess renewable electricity. This way production and use of energy can be separated both temporally and regionally. The production of hydrogen, however, is linked to a loss of 30-40 percent of energy. Environmental and consumers’ associations hence criticize the transformation of energy into hydrogen and fear that renewable energy will be wasted. Moreover, they are concerned that the opportunity to make comprehensive changes in the mobility sector will be lost due to the expensive buildup of a nationwide infrastructure as well as the development of a hydrogen fleet. These objections shall be considered in the project. For this purpose, a continuous inclusion of energy and mobility experts of environmental and consumers’ associations will take place via expert workshops or through their involvement in other topics of the project.
